You can now create and reuse targets for content across regular playlists and Campaign Manager. Assign attributes to locations and devices, and manage targeting directly from Admin.
Setting Up Targets in Admin
Navigate to Admin > Targeting to access two key sections: Saved Targets and Account Attributes.
Saved Targets
This section displays all targets that have been saved for your organization. Select any existing target to view which locations are included in it.
To create a new target, click "+ Add":
- Enter a name for the target. Adding a description is optional but recommended.
- Select the desired attributes:
- Predefined Tags: Includes all locations in your organization. You can select all or choose specific ones from the dropdown list. The field supports copy-pasting location numbers and names.
You can also target by time zones, zip codes, or states. - Location Tags: Target locations based on location-level attributes you have configured (e.g. Has on-site Café or not. See Account Attributes below for more details).
- Device Tags: Target by device-level attributes (e.g., left screen, right screen).
- Dynamic Tags: Apply dynamic rules such as weather (e.g. content only appears if temperature is higher than 90ºF) or API-based.
- Predefined Tags: Includes all locations in your organization. You can select all or choose specific ones from the dropdown list. The field supports copy-pasting location numbers and names.
- Click "Save Changes". The target will now be available across the platform for reuse.
Note: Selections across different sections (e.g., individual locations and states) are additive, so both sets will be targeted (e.g. Target location A and all those that belong to the state of California).
Account Attributes
Under Admin > Targeting > Account Attributes. It allows you to define custom properties for your locations and devices, which can then be used as targeting criteria.
Attributes can be applied to:
- Location-level: Properties that describe a location, such as whether it has an on-site café, or which product brand it carries (e.g. Hellman’s vs Best Foods).
- Device-level: Properties specific to a screen or player, such as screen position (e.g., left screen, right screen).
To create a new attribute, click "+ Add". Enter a name, the selection type (multiple, single, or Yes/No selection), which level it applies to (Location or Device), and if you’d like to see the Attribute in filters. Click the checkmark and then define the attribute values on the right side.
Assigning Attributes to Locations
Once your attributes are created, you can assign them to individual or multiple locations from the Locations tab.
Single Location
- Go to Admin > Locations.
- Double-click a location to view its settings.
- Navigate to the Attributes tab and assign the relevant location attributes.
- Save your changes.
Multiple Locations at Once
- In the Locations list, hold Shift and click to select multiple locations.
- Right-click and select "Edit."
- In the Attributes tab, assign the desired attributes. These will apply to all selected locations.
- Save your changes.
Applying Targets
Content Level
To apply a target:
- Click the targeting icon on any media file
- Choose one of the following options:
- Select an existing target: The dropdown list will show saved targets and the number of locations associated to it on the right side. If you want to make changes, click "Duplicate" to create a copy of the target. You can then edit the duplicate and either save the changes just for this file or save it as a new reusable target for the organization.
- Create a new target: Start from scratch and define targeting criteria for that media file specifically. You can choose to save the changes or add a name and description to reuse the targeting created later.
- Click "Save Changes" to apply the target to the media file.
Playlist Level
Targeting can also be applied at the playlist level, independently from the content file's own targeting.
- Create or open a playlist.
- Content files that already have a target assigned will display a "Targeted" indicator.
- Click the targeting icon on any media file within the playlist.
- The current target associated with the file will be shown (light gray). You can keep the current target or select a different attribute for this playlist context (in blue).
Note: Targeting changes made at the playlist level do not affect the targeting set at the media file level. You can only edit a saved target from the Admin section.
Applying Targets in Campaign Manager
When creating campaigns, targeting is configured per campaign item and starts independently from any file-level targeting.
- Go to Campaign Manager and create or open a campaign.
- Add a campaign item and select the content file.
- The targeting field defaults to all locations.
- Click "Select Target” to choose one of the previously saved targets or create a new one from scratch.
- Save the changes to the campaign item to confirm the targeting.
Note: Any targeting previously set on a media file will not carry over into Campaign Manager. Targeting within campaigns is configured independently
